3 Signs of your Car could use Engine Repair

The engine creates the power that makes your car go. If your vehicle seems to be suffering from some sort of trouble under the hood you should visit an auto mechanic as soon as possible. There are several things that can cause mechanical problems for the motor, such as poor maintenance or even something as simple as the wear and tear that comes with high mileage. It is important to keep up with your factory scheduled services in order to give your engine the best chance of survival for many years. However, if you do find your car or truck experiencing any of these common signs of engine trouble be sure to call your local auto shop right away in order to avoid further damage.
Knocking noises
One of the most common symptoms of engine trouble is a knocking noise that comes from under the hood. This is most often caused by engine bearings that are suffering from failure due to poor lubrication. Of course, they can also fail due to high mileage, as previously stated. The engine bearings are what the moving parts of the motor rest on. This issue generally requires a rebuild of the lower portion of the engine to ensure that all moving parts will continue to properly operate.
Excessive and colored exhaust smoke
Another sign of engine trouble relates to what comes out of the car's tailpipe. If there are ever any large puffy clouds of colorful smoke being released by your vehicle you can bet there's some sort of trouble. The most common problems can often be diagnosed by the color of the exhaust smoke. White smoke indicates a coolant leak within the engine, putting it at risk of overheating. Blue smoke represents an oil leak occurring inside the motor. This can result in lubrication trouble for the engine and increase wear and tear amongst its parts. Finally, black smoke means that your car is burning too much gasoline. This is often related to trouble in the fuel delivery system or a clogged air filter. Regardless of the cause it needs to be addressed right away as this too can result in bigger problems.
Loss of performance
If your car seems to be struggling to get up to speed, has a rough idle, or even just has trouble getting started, there could be a serious issue with the engine. While there are several types of problems that could cause these issues, such as malfunctioning sensors or a dirty air filter, mechanical engine trouble shouldn't be ruled out until a proper diagnosis is performed. Let your local auto shop take the vehicle for a spin so they can identify the actual problem with the car.
